Advantaged from the remarkable penetrative ability into blood–brain barrier, glycosides regulate several signaling pathways in brain cells resulting in suppressed neurotoxins-associated apoptosis, enhanced differentiation and survival and other neuroprotective effects. Beside antiinflammatory and functional benefits of glycoside compounds, the dietary form of glycosides have successfully led to inhibitory effects on senile neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment, if consumed on a regular basis throughout the life. Therefore, glycosides may further meet pharmaceutical features needed for developing a noble brain-protective drug designed for improving brain activity and hindering neurodegenerative diseases.
