Nature of the Water-Soluble Metabolites of Carbaryl in Bean Plants and Their Fate in Rats1

Carbaryl injected into bean plants was metabolized into some persistant products that were water soluble in nature, and others that could not be extracted from plant tissues. Standard analytical methods employed for the detection of carbaryl residues cannot be used directly or simply modified for the measurement of these metabolites. When the water-soluble metabolites of carbaryl from bean plants were fed to rats as a single dose, they Were almost entirely excreted within 96 hours; 86% of the dose was eliminated in the urine and 8% in the feces.
