AIM: To study the phenylethanoid glycosides and their cytotoxicity of Chirita eburnea Hance.METHODS: Column chromatographys were used in the isolation procedure,the structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by spectral data(EI-MS,1H-NMR,13 C-NMR).Meanwhile cytotoxic test of 5 kinds of compounds were made according to the cell experiment in vitro.RESULTS: Five phenylethanoid glycosides were isolated from Chirita eburnea Hance,which were 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-3-Ocafeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (plantainoside Α)(1),3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-6-O-glucopyranosylcafeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (chiritoside C)(2),3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-2-O-cafeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (plantaninoside B)(3),3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-4-O-cafeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (plantamajoside)(4) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl alcohol-4-O-cafeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside ( desrhamnosylverbascoside ) ( 5 ),respectively.Compounds 4,5 showed cytotoxic activities on human lung carcinoma SPC-A1 cell strains.CONCLUSION: Compound 3 is isolated for the first time from the family Gesneriaceae,and compounds 1,2,4 and 5 are isolated for the first time from Chirita eburnea Hance.The IC50 of compound 4,5 on human lung carcinoma SPC-A1 cell strains were: 207.23,180.34 μmol/L.
