Highlights Agricultural e-commerce is a new industry worth studying. Statistical model of regional siphon effect. This article uses micro data, which is obtained by web crawler software. Abstract . “Siphon effect” on the regional economy has become increasingly prominent, but mathematical analysis has been a shortcoming in this field. The existing research on the siphon effect is mainly theoretical analysis. Results there is a lack of quantitative analysis in this field. Therefore, the author constructs a new “siphon effect” model based on the previous research experience and regional economic operation mechanism analysis. The model uses Alibaba e-commerce platform data to analyze the siphon effect in the spatial pattern of agricultural e-commerce (AE) development. The results show that there is a siphon effect because the spatial distribution of agricultural e-commerce development is V-shaped, and the online agricultural product operators in the central cities occupy the consumer market in other cities. What is more important is that the seizure of market space has hindered the healthy and comprehensive development of the region’s industry. Finally, the article discusses the source of competitive advantage of the operators of agricultural e-commerce in central cities from two aspects: the basis of the processing industry and the effect of sales scale.
