A Study on the Convergence of an Interface with a Humanoid Chatbot

This study verifies the effect of foreign language learning for the development of communication ability through the interface fusion of AI technology and a messenger robot. First, we designed a learning system using a humanoid robot, artificial intelligence, and digital convergence technology that enables self-learning, and examined the effect on the learning achievement. Second, we verified the humanoid robot's ability to implement interaction with humans and applied the interface program to the learning of communication ability as an algorithm of self-learning. Third, various contents of a cloud app and a Facebook messenger chatbot have been applied to the study system that are mounted with iTunes and app store in all devices such as iPod, iPhone, iPad, Macintosh PC, and iTV. The subjects of study were 120 students from a university located in Cheonan, Choongnam. Achievement through the pre-test, post-test, and learning activities of the experimental group and the control group was analyzed, and statistical analysis was conducted through the survey of the experimental group. The research results are as follows. First, robots can enhance the interaction between content users such as students, content creators such as teachers, and actual material contents, which is very effective in foreign language education. Second, the educational robot-based learning system motivated learners in self-directed learning. Third, the pre-test and post-test results showed that the proposed learning system was effective in improving students' achievement by the learning system based on robots and AI applications.
