摘要
A one-step on air synthesis of water-soluble composites from carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt (CMC) and Cu2O nanoparticles, ca. 10 nm in diameter is described. The polymer matrix stabilizes the nanoparticles against aggregation via electrostatic interaction between carboxyl groups of the polymer and Cu(1+)-ions on the nanoparticle surface. Being dispersed in water, the composites initiate a photocatalytic oxidation of an azo dye Methyl Orange. The oxidation proceeds in the presence of oxygen and accelerates significantly up to a 100 conversion when hydrogen peroxide is added. The Cu2O-CMC composites have potential for photochemical decomposition of organic contaminants in water waste.
