For deepwater field developments, subsea production systems are frequently envisaged by operators. A basic architecture consists of a central manifold gathering the production of several wells and exporting it to a process facility. From a scheme initially proposed by BP, this paper presents a modular subsea manifold using existing equipment and methods. Inconvenient aspects of this state of the art technology are pointed out and innovative manifold architectors are proposed: they lead to easier and cheaper installation and maintenance of the equipment and to a greater reliability through simplicity of the remote control system. .
