Three-dimensional macroporous silicon (see image) was synthesized by a magnesiothermic reduction method as an anode material for lithium ion batteries. An improved lithium storage performance was obtained after coating silver nanoparticles on the surface of the silicon. The silver-coated 3D macroporous silicon shows promise as an anode material in lithium ion batteries. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”.
