The ichnological signature of wave- and river-dominated deltas: Dunvegan and Basal Belly River formations, West-Central Alberta

This study documents the distribution and types of trace fossils associated with the subenvironments of deltaic deposits, specifically in the subsurface expression of the Cenomanian Dunvegan Formation, and the Campanian Basal Belly River Formation of west-central Alberta. It also seeks to identify paleoenvironmental factors that affect the behaviour of infaunal organisms in the different deltaic environments and explain why they differ in waveand river-dominated delta complexes. The development of an ichnological-sedimentological model will aid in the recognition of these sub-environments, and the in recognition of these successions as riveror wave-dominated.
