Nanoscale zero-valent iron has great potential in environmental contaminants degradation due to its small size,large surface area,high surface energy and high reduction potential. And it is widely used in soil and water remediation. These properties make nanoscale zero-valent iron oxidized readily when exposed to oxygen medi leading to transformation of its physical,and chemical properties,and significant decrease in reactivity. In this paper,the advance on the transformation of nanoscale zero-valent iron in different environment medi is reviewed,including sysnthesis and characteristics of nanoscale zero-valent iron, the transformation of structure, compositions, reactivity,toxicity,mechanism of heavy metal removal and perspectives of oxidation nanoscale zerovalent iron.
