Summary The quality factor Q, which quantifies the effects of attenuation of seismic waves, is a diagnostic tool for reservoir characterization. The energy ratio method (ERM), proposed by Wang, et al. (2015), is a useful method for Q estimation in high-precision seismic data. The generalized logarithmic spectral ratio method (GLSRM), presented by Liu, et al (2016), is a novel Q measurment approach with the combination of logarithmic spectrum ratio method (SRM) and logarithmic spectral area-difference method (LSADM). These two methods are frequency domain methods. After theoretical analysis, we find the intimate relationship of two methods. In this abstract, we present a modified energy ratio method based on GLSRM., which called as generalized energy ratio method (GERM). Tests of synthetic and real data examples demonstrate that the proposed method is able to estimate Q factor with high accuracy and anti-noise property.
