Capillary electrophoresis as a simple and low-cost analytical tool for use in money-constrained situations

The review aims to show that capillary electrophoresis is an excellent tool to assist in various types of analyses in money-constrained environments. This is due to its inherent characteristics of low-cost, high efficiency and environmental friendliness. The review summarizes the recent research performed in this field, subdivided in discussions of contributions towards easily accessible CE hardware and simple instrumental procedures. Applications that are relevant to low resource situations are highlighted, ranging from pharmaceutical to environmental and forensic analyses. It can be concluded that significant advances have been made in improving the accessibility to satisfactory analytical capacity throughout the globe. However, further efforts from researchers, local governments and funding agencies are strongly encouraged.
