Vat photopolymerization (VP) 3D printing has rapidly developed in aspects of technologies and materials to meet various demands raised by practical applications in many fields. A desirable strategy, so-called surface functionalization of VP 3D printing, combines 3D printing together with surface engineering to pave a new road toward functional devices by governing the surface performance of 3D-printed architectures. It can be used in the potential fields where surface properties are critical. The key point of this protocol is adding functional dimensions to 3D-printed objects instead of material designing and structure optimization, which shows the great advantageous features in versatility, time-saving, cost-effective, and high flexibility. For VP 3D printing, the surface engineering methods including etching, deposition, self-assembly, polymer brush grafting and coating, etc. are summarized in this chapter, as well as various applications relying on the unique surface functions in biomedicine, engineering, electronics, energy, environment, and so forth.
