With the simulation on the composition of converter steelmaking slags, the experiments of hot metal pretreatment by using CaOSiO2Fe2O3MnO2MgOP2O5Al2O3CaF2 fluxes were performed in the laboratory scale. The results showed that the desiliconization rate of about 75 % and the dephosphorization rate of 80 % are achieved by using converter slags with optimum composition. The rephosphorization reaction took place during the desiliconization pretreatment of hot metal. The maximum rephosphorization rate is22.5 %. When the BaO was added into the converter slags,the dephosphorization rate of hot metal can be significantly enhanced if the addition of BaO is controlled in the range of 15 % to 20 %.
