Metal-organic frameworks are a familiar term to researchers in most disciplines, and this appeal is related to its specific applications and structural diversity. The advent of functional MOFs was able to increase this demand, and eventually “amine-functionalized MOFs” were able to capture a major share of this attention. The advantages of having an amine group in a heterogeneous porous framework were such that, many groups around the world designed structures with this functional group. In this review, we have tried to categorize all these synthesis methods in the form of different approaches. On the other hand, we have examined and shown the main structural changes after the entry of the amino agent. In the following sections, we have described the excellent applications derived from amine MOFs, and in addition to classification, have been conducted a comprehensive study on each. The effect of other functional groups on the activity of the amine group has also been investigated. Finally, examination of the synthesis, properties, and applications of composites derived from amine-MOFs has introduced us to a new branch of materials in industrial applications. In the end, in the concluding part, the potential opportunities and challenges faced by amine-MOFs will also be discussed. In general, in addition to the high diversity of preparation methods, the prominent role of the amine functional group in the development of MOFs is undeniable. More specifically, directly or indirectly, the design, synthesis, and application of many metal–organic structures are dependent on the presence of this functional group.
