BPs provide conducting networks for electrons between cells, homogeneous distribution of fuel gases, water and heat management, and structural support for the thin membrane. BPs primarily have been manufactured from high-density graphite and metals. Recently, novel characteristics of composite materials have captured the great attention of researchers for BP applications. Two categories of composites have aroused extensive interest: thermoplastic and thermoset. This chapter overviews the present research studies being performed on thermoset composites for BP applications. In this research, types of the polymer matrix (thermoset resins) and carbon fillers, as well as manufacturing methods, are investigated. Characteristics of polymer matrix and conductive fillers play a major role in the electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of thermoset-based composite BPs. Herein, the effect of different conductive fillers and the influence of parameters of manufacturing methods on the properties of thermoset-based composite BPs have been discussed in detail. This chapter also includes theories of electrical conductivity in polymer composites and the testing and characterization of polymer composite-based BPs.
