Oxide ceramic matrix composites with porous matrices are a special class of materials which were initially developed for aerospace applications. Their specific microstructure includes continuous, polycrystalline oxide fibers with are embedded in highly porous oxide matrices. This results in a unique combination of mechanical, thermal and chemical properties and makes porous oxide CMC interesting for safety-critical, high-temperature applications in harsh environments. Oxide CMC are employed as components in aerospace as well in industrial applications.
