The automatic release of results from clinical instruments via algorithms running in a laboratory information system (LIS) may improve efficiency, reduce overall turnaround time, and be accomplished within current regulatory frameworks. There are a number of issues that need to be taken into account prior to implementing such a process. Capabilities of the instrumentation in terms of validity of results, error flags, data management, and transmission remain a concern. Some analyzers may be easier or more difficult to link to an autoverification algorithm. The abil
