IT has become widely accepted that within a cell genetic information is coded in the sequence of bases in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), that DNA can direct the synthesis both of itself and of ribonucleic acid (RNA) with an analogous base sequence and that the base sequence in RNA can be translated into the sequence of amino acids in a protein.
