Abstract Propolis is known for its biological, antibacterial, antifungal, and healing properties. Antifungal activity was tested with the ethanolic extract of propolis against 21 strains of Microsporum canis, M. gypseum, and M. nanum. The ethanolic extract of propolis showed antifungal activity against all the 3 species. The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the ethanolic extract of propolis were 0.2µL/mL for M. gypseum, 0.05µL/mL for M. nanum, and 0.025µL/mL for M. canis. It seems that Iranian propolis has pharmacological value as a natural product and it is necessary for further investigation into propolis as a potentially useful agent for the treatment of dermatophytosis. The aim of present study was to identify inhibitory effect of Iranian propolis against abovementioned species of Microsporum.
