摘要
This chapter highlights the problems of early aging, their causes, related molecular mechanisms, their treatment, and the potential of nanotechnology to reduce aging of skin. Skin aging is not related to a single factor; it is caused by a combination of environmental factors, which may be intrinsic and extrinsic. Demand for antiaging cosmeceuticals is growing swiftly in the personal care product industry, particularly from natural sources. Retinoic acid, carotenoids, tocopherol, and α-linolenic acid are some commonly used fatty substances which are incorporated during the preparation of cosmetics for topically used personal care products. The use of lipids in formulations alters the solubility profile, gives a moisturizing effect, improves hydration of skin, and increases retention of the formulation where it is applied. Nanocosmeceuticals using lipids have become very popular as they improve the penetrability of the drug through the stratum corneum, increasing the absorption of active ingredients and providing sustained release of active moiety. However, increased use of nanocosmeceuticals is causing concerns regarding potential hazards to human health.
