A supramolecular oligonucleotide-adapted approach (see picture) makes thrombin, the key enzyme of this network, measurable in vivo. In patients undergoing hip-replacement surgery, thrombin was identified as a valuable biomarker to allow monitoring of the activity level of the coagulation system under clinical conditions.
