Fuel cells are energy-generation devices with high theoretical efficiency. In the previous few decades, numerous studies have been conducted in order to produce many types of viable fuel cells. The most commercially viable fuel cells recently are solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and polymeric exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Many perovskites have been used as promising materials for SOFC cathodes, interconnects, electrolytes and anodes. In addition, perovskites have recently been proposed and explored for use in PEMFCs. There are some perovskite compositions which have been utilized in SOFC and PEMFC components and show good and reliable performance. In this chapter, some of the most widely used and important perovskites are introduced. The reader will learn the basic material structure and characteristics of perovskites and discover the correlation among electrochemical properties of perovskites accompanied by their different material characteristics, such as compositions, morphology, and porous structure, in SOFCs and PEMFCs.
