摘要
How and why do we recognize each other? What has made this important throughout the history of humankind? It is not only a physiological response but it is a part of our survival as a species. The proportions of our bodies are built into everything we use and build. Vitruvius recorded the proportions of the face in 80 to 15 BCE. Leonardo affirmed this is his famous drawing that is a tribute to Vitruvius. Albrecht Durer further contributed to this science of proportion during the Renaissance. This trail of facial reconstruction leads from the study of anatomy by Vesalius and on through the history of scientific thought, Descartes and the market place for authentication. Finally in today's world it has been refined to be used for criminalistic purposes. The face is a part of our ancient history knowledge, mortuary practices and modern society. Finally, it is used today to get to know our ancestors. An example of a which is a young man living in Bahrain 2000 years ago.
