AbstractThe dynamic responses of the spatial annular composite beam structure formed by rigid connection of beams are investigated in consideration of the axial, torsional and bending movements of each beam. Based on the global modal method, the frequency equation of the system is obtained, thereby getting the natural frequencies and the global modal shapes of the system. The discrete dynamic model is obtained by using the Galerkin truncation procedure to the continuous dynamic model according to the orthogonality of the global modal shapes of the composite structures. In the numerical calculation, a regular hexagonal annular composite beam structure is taken as a calculation example. Through comparing the inherent characteristics of the system obtained by the global modal method and the finite element method, the results show the first nine-order natural frequency error can be ignored. High accuracy and consistent modal shapes, which further illustrates the effectiveness and accuracy of the global modal method in solving the problem of annular composite beam structure.KeywordsAnnular composite beam structureGlobal modal methodDynamic modelingInherent characteristics
