In order to satisfy the market demand, brown cigarette paper was developed with the brown color made from tobacco extract, edible pigments and extracts of black tea, acorn cup, walnut shell and cacao shell. The colorimetric analysis of brown cigarette paper was conducted, and the results showed that the color intensity was not affected by time, auxiliary agent or temperature. Analysis results showed that the compounds in the pyrolytic products of brown cigarette paper were basically the same as that of imported colored cigarette paper. The results of routine smoke analysis and sensory evaluation showed that brown cigarette paper had no negative effect on the yields of cigarette mainstream smoke and smoking quality.
