Integrating conventional geotechnical instrumentation with geophysical methods is a pivotal strategy for more efficient management of tailings dams. By combining the precision of conventional instrumentation with the spatial coverage and real-time monitoring capabilities of geophysical methods, dam managers can establish a robust monitoring framework that enhances safety, minimizes environmental risks, and contributes to the overall sustainability of tailings dams. This article will present three case studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of geophysical methods in tailings dam management, fostering the cooperation between researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to improve the state of geophysical monitoring techniques for safe and sustainable tailings dam management.
