Progress of total knee arthroplasty using medial pivot knee prosthesis

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most important methods to treat osteoarthritis of knee. However, the kinetics of knee is changed after TKA and lead to paradoxical motion which is different from natural posterior translation. This abnormal kinetic prevents the improvement of the patients’ satisfaction. The design of medial pivot knee prosthesis could mimic the natural kinetic of knee better and provides a good option for TKA. This review illustrated the basic characters of medial pivot knee and shows the recent clinical outcome and progress of applying the medial pivot prosthesis.
