Chiral Building Blocks for Total Steroid Synthesis and the Use of Steroids as Chiral Building Blocks in Organic Synthesis

Steroids belong to a large group of naturally occurring compounds with essential biological activity. The first part of the chapter reviews a selection of synthetic chiral building blocks used to synthesize steroids. Steroids are also used as chiral building blocks to construct nortriterpenoids, corticosteroids, secosteroids, polyoxygenated steroids, etc. This topic is reviewed in the second part of this chapter.
