摘要
All-optical phase-shift-keying (PSK) data conversion beyond 10 Gbit/s in a carbon-doped silicon carbide (SiC:C) waveguide microring resonator with the nonlinear Kerr effect switching is demonstrated. As the nonlinear group index change (Δng) of 1.65 × 10–4 is induced in the SiC:C microring with a gap spacing of 1300 nm, the nonlinear Kerr switching enhances the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the converted amplitude-shift-keying (ASK) data to 12.4 dB. The conversion between ASK and PSK modulation formats can be performed by such a nonlinear phase variation in the SiC:C microring. By combining the microring-based delay-line interference to demodulate the PSK format, the received SNR, extinction ratio, and bit-error ratio of the demodulated PSK data are obtained as 4.1 dB, 11 dB, and 1.1 × 10–5, respectively. The SiC:C composite microring phase modulator not only performs the conversion between the PSK and ASK formats but also provides the encryption algorithm for input data to facilitate the security of data transmission and streaming applications.
