Recent progress in Ce3+/Eu2+-activated LEDs and persistent phosphors: focusing on the local structure and the electronic structure

The theoretical and experimental progress in the Ce 3+ /Eu 2+ activated LEDs and persistent phosphors is reviewed. We expound an overall vision on composition–structure–property correlations and the development routines of some typical phosphors.
