摘要
Lubricants generated from petrochemicals could be environmental hazards and can be substituted with bio-lubricants. According to Fortune business insight, the global market for bio-lubricants is expected to rise from 3.08 billion USD in the year 2022 to 4.26 billion USD by 2029. In the past, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a decline of 14.6% in the year 2020 in comparison to 2019 was recorded in the global market. However, a report from BIOWAYS 2017 claims the compound annual growth rate of lubricant oil in the global scenario is expected to enhance by 5.4% from the year 2016 to 2024. Bio lubricants are renewable, economical, non-toxic, and easily biodegradable. In the present chapter, the highlights have been on natural and synthetic sources of lubricant, the significance of bio-lubricants along with their characteristic properties. In last, the chapter consists brief discussion on the future challenges and prospects of bio-lubricants.
