Two kinds of polyacrylate emulsions modified with fluorine containing emulsion were prepared by the emulsion mixing method (Ⅰ) and in situ emulsion polymerization (Ⅱ) to improve polyacrylate emulsion properties. The analysis investigates the effects of initiator feeding methods, the kinds of emulsifer and the amount of fluorine containing emulsion on the stability of the reaction system, monomer conversation and the glass transition temperature of the emulsion films. The water absorption and the hardness of two emulsion films were measured. The results indicate that (1) there is an obvious improvement on the hardness and water absorption of the film based on the mixed emulsion only at high fluorine content in the fluorine containing emulsion, and (2) the improvement was quite high even for low fluorine content in the fluorine containing emulsion using method Ⅱ.
