Abstract Our genome is continuously attacked by environmental factors and endogenous metabolizing products, resulting in DNA damage that affects the fundamental function of DNA including transcription and replication. DNA damage repair plays central role in response to DNA damage. This mini-review focuses on the basic information of DNA damage repair pathways including base excision repair, nucleotide excision repair, mismatch repair, single-strand breaks repair, and double-strand breaks repair. Cisplatin, a DNA-damaging anticancer drug, has been widely used in the clinics. The repair of cisplatin-induced DNA damage will also be discussed.
