Composite phase-change coating with coal-fly-ash-based zeolite as carrier was investigated in this paper. Coal-fly-ash-based mesoporous zeolite was impregnated in the melted binary (capric acid–palmitic acid) / ternary (capric acid–palmitic acid–paraffin) phase-change substances to prepare the phase-change particles. Then these phase-change particles were used as the functional fillers to prepare the phase-change coatings. The phase-change temperatures of binary and ternary zeolite phase-change particles were 24.33 and 24.50 ℃ (at which the human body feels comfortable), and the phase-change latent heats were 66.36 and 83.52 J/g, respectively. Their thermal stabilities were also favorable. Based on the phase-change materials' appearance and property tests, the phase-change coatings showed good energy-storage and temperature-regulation abilities when the mixing ratio of emulsion, kaolin, and phase-change particles was 6:5:2. Therefore, the phase change coating using zeolite phase change particles as filler is potential to conserve energy in buildings.
