Studies of Two-Phase Flow Patterns by Simultaneous X-Ray and Flash Photography

Studies are reported of the flow patterns in vertical upwards flow of air-water mixtures in a 1 1/4 inch bore tube at pressures ranging from 6 - 65 psig. The flow pattern was observed by means of simultaneous high speed flash and high speed X-ray photography. Particular attention was paid to the region of high liquid rates where ordinary photographic methods are inadequate. The development of macroscopic structure within the flow leading to annular and wispy annular low was clearly demonstrated. (auth)
