Abstract Abstract The extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) technique is now used extensively and effectively in the study of the structure of metal catalysts. This paper is a review of the different types of EXAFS experiments, and of the kind of results they give, and it also speculates on the future of the technique in solid-state physics.
