Taenia solium In The Small Intestine

A 49-year-old man presented to the emergency department with a 1-month history of painless bright red bleeding per rectum, progressive weight loss, and lethargy. Laboratory studies revealed eosinophilia in the peripheral blood (1140 cells/μL) and a new normocytic anemia with hemoglobin of 7.9 g/dL (reference range, 13–17). He had moved to North America from Tibet 2 years prior and consumed meat products. Upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, push enteroscopy, and computed tomography enterography did not reveal a cause for anemia.
