Researchers are focusing hard on boosting purification efficiency for wastewater treatment by applying metal oxide nanocomposite along with activated carbon by utilization of cheap and earth-abundant transition metals. This type of moiety has peculiar physical and chemical properties that play a pivotal role in the domain of heterogeneous photocatalysis. Transition metal oxide nanocomposites (MONs) has shown excellent electrochemical and photocatalytic potential due to lattice arrangement, their different type of lattice structure, indirect band geometry, optoelectronic behavior, and durability, which make catalysts more efficient for absorption of visible light radiation. The combination of MONs with activated carbon (providing huge surface area) has been used to enhance catalytic efficiency. Similarly, a huge variety of transition MONs also have been explored along with specific features such as large surface area and unconventional physical, chemical, and optical properties. MONs have attracted much attention due to their environmental applications, such as water purification, dye degradation, and photo redox activity. In this chapter, the authors review the recent methodology of MONs/activated carbon, synthesis, characterization, photochemical study, and catalytic mechanism, and the applications of MONs are also elaborated.
