Effects of task repetition on the structure and control of oral language

The central challenge for language teaching is to develop learners' communicative language ability through pedagogic intervention. However, because this involves a number of distinct processes, different kinds of learning activities may each help to develop a learner's ability to use the language, albeit in different ways. This chapter l explores one likely influence on development, that of learners' repeating a task or practising a type of task.
