Advances in life style and development of the agricultural segment have resulted in the use of huge amount of agrochemicals popularly known as ‘pesticides.’ These hazardous chemicals are widely used in agricultural sector as well as in the community health management to protect plants and humans from numerous diseases. Conversely, they deteriorate ecosystem through adverse effects on health and environment. There are several chemical, biological, and physical strategies for the removal of these contaminants from the natural ecosystem. Among different strategies, sorption of pesticide on the agroindustrial waste-based biochar is emerging and promising method. In this chapter, we have briefly reviewed applications and harmful effects of pesticides. Different characteristics of biochar have been discussed thoroughly. Furthermore, major focus is given to the discussion on recent advances in the sorption of various pesticides using direct as well as chemically modified biochar.
