Advances and ongoing challenges in the prevention and control of lung cancer

Lung cancer is common, difficult to treat, frequently lethal and increasing in prevalence worldwide. Yet it is a largely preventable disease for most. In this chapter the global burden of lung cancer is discussed, with a particular focus on disease epidemiology and risk factors. The clinical aspects are reviewed in detail, from clinical presentation to diagnostic pathways. The various treatment approaches are explored and the potential role of screening in early disease detection to lower mortality risk is presented.
