Liposomes are among the most well-documented drug delivery systems in anticancer therapy owing to their passive targeting capacities besides inherent biocompatibility and biodegradability. During the recent decades, various strategies have been employed to enhance selective drug delivery to the tumor cells through liposomal nanoparticles. Among the applied methods, aptamers have emerged as promising targeting ligands. Herein, we elaborate on the preparation methods of aptamer-functionalized liposomal systems as well as the antitumor efficacy of such conjugates targeted against different cancer cell surface markers.
