QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) is a pretreatment procedure that has gained significant popularity among researchers. Several QuEChERS process changes have recently been performed to increase extraction and cleanup efficiency. Most importantly, porous materials have emerged as attractive sorbents with distinct extraction efficiency properties. The main objective of this review is to investigate the use of porous materials in QuEChERS. It provides an overview of the QuEChERS methodology and addresses the rationale behind the incorporation of porous materials in this strategy. Several kinds of porous materials used are thoroughly discussed, along with their synthesis and modification techniques used to improve extraction efficiency. The limitations and potential of porous material-based QuEChERS have also been investigated. Ultimately, this study will shed light on the potential of porous materials in sample preparation and motivate future research in this interesting area, thereby opening up new horizons in analytical chemistry.
