Rod-like Na0.95MnO2 is prepared by a cheap and environmentally friendly method comprising hydrothermal reaction of MnSO4, (NH4)2S2O8, and (NH4)2SO4 in an 1:1:4 molar ratio (140 °C) to give birnessite-like δ-MnO2 nanowires followed by ball milling with Na2CO3 and calcination (870 °C, 10 h).
