Present Role of Mammography/Digital Mammography in Breast Cancer Management

Mammography is the primary breast imaging modality. Its major role is in breast cancer screening. Other indications of mammography are referred to as “diagnostic mammography,” and these include evaluation of patients with symptomatic breast diseases, search of the occult primary cancer, preoperative evaluation, and follow-up of patients with breast cancer. Other imaging modalities compliment, but do not generally replace, mammography. Digital mammography has further improved the technical capabilities of mammography.
