摘要
An accurate means of weighing pigs on a regular basis, which does not cause stress or require large labour input would be a great asset to large-scale pig producers. Attempts to develop a system using weighing platforms have not been successful. Rapid developments in imaging system technology and the electronics needed to put them into practice is increasing their potential for use in livestock production. The possibility of weighing a pig by calculating its weight from specific areas and dimensions measured using digital image analysis is investigated here. Results show that image analysis under interactive control of the operator can be used to measure the area of a pig when viewed directly from above, and that this can be used to determine pig weight to within 5% accuracy.
