With the widespread usage of electronic devices, advanced electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption materials have received considerable interest over the years for various applications. Polymer nanocomposite (PNC) has emerged as a promising EM wave absorbing material with the desirable features of light weight, relatively easy processability, and high absorption performance. This article presents a concise review on the recent PNC research progresses for EM wave absorption, including the basic mechanism of microwave absorption such as dielectric and magnetic loss, the developments of ferrite and carbon based PNCs, reflection loss (RL), shielding effectiveness (SE), absorption bandwidth, and potential multifunctional nanocomposites. In the last section, the perspective of the current challenges and key issues have also been suggested for future research and developments.
