In the past two decades, two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials have received considerable attention. Gas separation membranes that include these nanomaterials have been found to have superior performance. In particular, membranes with MXenes, a young family of 2D nanomaterials, have shown unique structures and transport properties providing the membranes superior gas separation performance. This chapter puts recent advances in MXene-based lamellar and hybrid membranes into perspective. It discusses membrane structures, modification, physiochemical properties, and transport mechanisms. It reviews existing applications of these membranes for gas purification. It highlights current challenges and future directions in this area, facilitating the development of the next generation of gas separation membranes.
