The enthalpies of formation of cerium dioxide, cerium sesquicarbide, and cerium dicarbide have been determined by oxygen bomb calorimetry and found to be ΔH°f(CeO2, 298.15 K) = −(260.6 ± 0.2) kcal mol−1, ΔH°f(CeC1.5, 298.15 K) = −(21.1 ± 0.7) kcal mol−1, and ΔH°f(CeC2.0, 298.15 K) = −(23.1 ± 1.3) kcal mol−1.
